First aid is not a substitute for proper veterinary care – but if you have the knowledge and can apply first aid it will increase the odds of a favourable outcome for your animal.  Always seek veterinary medical attention immediately.

Heatstroke

Signs of heatstroke may include weakness, panting, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea,  bright-red tongue, and thick saliva.

For moderate heatstroke (body temperature between 40-41c) move pet to a cool place and point a fan at him/her.  Pour rubbing alcohol on the ear flap and back, if no alcohol use cool water – no ice or very cold water.  Lowering temperature too quickly can lead to shock.  If your pet isn’t better within an hour call the vet.  For severe heatstroke (over 41+c), this is an emergency!  Pour rubbing alcohol on the dog’s back and keep car’s air conditioning on as you drivee to the vet. 

Bleeding 

Press a towel or thick gauze over the injury and apply pressure.  If you can wrap with self adhesive bandage.  Keep would elevated to slow bleeding. If blood is gushing, wrap and hold and get to the vet immediately.
